Spain

Approves measures to guarantee equality and non-discrimination of LGTBI employees

From 10th October 2024, the applicable royal decree 1026/2024 became effective.1

This regulation mandates that companies with more than fifty workers implement measures and protocols against harassment and violence. The decree includes clauses on equal treatment for all employees regardless of sexual orientation, identity, or gender expression.  

Non-discrimination in employment includes access to promotions, career progression as well as training to ensure that stereotypes are eradicated. Specific training on the rights of LGBTI people and creating inclusive and safe work environments.

The decree also outlines protocols for action against harassment and violence, specifying procedures for reporting and resolving complaints.2

United Kingdom

Announces changes for employers in annual budget

The first Labour government budget was announced in October with implications for both employees and employers.

Changes announced included:

  • From April 2025 employers National Insurance (NI) contributions will rise by 1.2% to 15%. The threshold for businesses to start paying National Insurance will be lowered from £9,100 to £5,000 per worker.
  • Minimum wages will rise from 1st April 2025 by 6.7% for over-21s to £12.21, and to £10 an hour for 18 to 20-year-olds— up more than 16%.
  • Pension accrual will become subject to inheritance tax from 2027.

Minimum wage increases from October 2024

Guernsey

Effective from 1st October 2024, the monthly minimum wage per hour for employees under the age of 18 is £10.80, up from £9.65. For employees aged over 18 the hourly minimum wage increases from £10.65 to £12 per hour.

Minimum wage increases from November 2024

Kenya

Effective from 1st November 2024, the minimum wage in Kenya will increase by 6%. The minimum wage varies depending on the role:

  • Unskilled employees will now get a minimum of KES 7,997 per month (KES 335 per day).
  • Stockmen and herdsmen are entitled to KES 9,235 per month (KES 391 per day).
  • House servants or cooks will now earn a minimum of KES 9,129 per month (KES 347 per day).
  • Foremen will earn KES 14,427 per month (KES 609 per day).
  • Farm clerks will also earn a minimum of KES 14,427 monthly, with wages for other roles—such as farm artisans, tractor drivers, combine harvest drivers, and lorry drivers—set between KES 9,000 and KES 11,000 per month.

British Virgin Islands

Effective from 30th November 2024, the hourly minimum wage will increase by 40% to $8.50, up from $6.

Minimum wage increases from January 2024

Ireland

Effective from 1st January 2025, the hourly minimum wage will increase by €0.80 to €13.50.

Slovakia

Effective from 1st January 2025, the monthly minimum wage will increase from €750 to €816, an increase of 8.8%. This increases with the difficulty of work up to €1,396 per month.

Bulgaria

Effective from 1st January 2025, the monthly minimum wage will increase by 15.4% to BGN 1,077.

Effective from January 2025, the monthly minimum wage will increase from €840 to €970.

Minimum wage increases from February 2024

Malaysia

Effective from 1st February 2025, the monthly minimum wage will increase by 13% from MYN 1,500 to MYN 1,700. For employers will less than 5 employees, an additional 6-month grace period will apply, with employers being required to provide minimum wage from 1st August 2025.
